Thinking Outside the Box March 29, 2007 bookman (Haddon Heights,NJ,USA) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Chowder is a book that appeals to all age levels. If you are a dog-lover,this book is for you. If you like books with great humor, this book is for you. I like the way bulldog is portrayed as an individualist. Chowder shows us that being an individual is fun. Thinking outside the box, as Chowder certainly does, brings fun into life. The illustrations are brilliant. Brown's excellent training is certainly evident throughout the book. Chowder is a dog not afraid of being himself. This is a great book for teaching young people about being proud of who you are. Go beyond the surface of the story and dig for some life's lessons in this marvelous book!
nice graphics, wierd story January 9, 2007 ta-da (Chicago, IL United States) 1 out of 4 found this review helpful
I know I'm not a kid anymore, but this story is rather out there. The graphics pulled me in though - nice to see something different. I did purchase this for my son - but he hasn't responded to it much yet.

Adorable book! How can you pass on a book with a dog sitting on the toilet? Buy it.
Enjoyable! September 6, 2006 armchairinterviews.com (Minnesota) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
Chowder had always been different. He really was like no other dog. He was quirky, not weird as other people thought of him. He wanted to be like the other animals, but he just wasn't. His people owners, the Wubbingtons, loved him dearly, but they were a little quirky themselves. When Chowder learned that there was a Critter Coral (petting zoo) at the Food Ranch, he devised a plan to go there and meet the animals. He thought the Critter Coral animals would befriend him. After an unusual incident, the 'critters' embraced all that was unique about Chowder (they had their own quirky behaviors) and he had new friends at last. I expect there will be laughter and delight in the animal antics. Be prepared to read this story over and over again. Armchair Interviews says: Children will enjoy the creative story of Chowder.
Chowder is my new best friend! August 6, 2006 bella (N.Y.C) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I absolutely adore Chowder! He is one of the most lovable little bull dogs. The story is so entertaining, i laughed out loud almost every page. The illustrations are fabulous and i love Chowders parents. This book is great, i really recommend it! Exellent job Peter Brown. I look forward to more Chowder stories in the future.
