Good, basic book January 26, 2005 Reader (United States) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a good, really basic book. It's probably not going to be the last training book that you buy, but it's worth it for the simple instructions and nice photos.
Brief but good for review of basics April 2, 2004 0 out of 3 found this review helpful
This is not in great detail but I found it valuable after being away from obedience training, getting a CD some 25 years ago. I notice tho that the book I got is copyright 2003 and the author is Nikki Moustaki (on the cover). I do not know what if any changes from book by Dan Gentile.
Pictures good, quantity bad August 5, 2000 Darla McFarren (Hastings, NE USA) 14 out of 15 found this review helpful
I thought this book was a good book for it's pictures. In fact, the pictures in this book are full color and very helpful to see what the author is talking about. If you are the type of person who needs a lots of pictures then you may want to purchase this book. However, I found the content to be a bit lacking. The book is only 64 pages long and remember what I said about there being lots of pictures? They take up a LOT of space that may be better reserved in content of helpful suggestions. I've read several different books on dog-training behaviors and this one was one of the worst for it's lack of content. There are pages on lots of topics, but none of those topics are described in much detail. Most topics are 1-2 pages long. Overall, this book is good for how it covers a broad range of stuff, and if you are wanting to know just a little bit about a lot of stuff, this may be the book for you. But if you are looking for a book that gives good step-by-step instructions to tell you how exactly to get your dog to walk beside you (or other obedience items), then I'd look somewhere else. I suppose I should have looked at the title "Beginning Obedience" before I picked up this book. I was looking for a little more detail.
Terrific--a book that makes sense!! September 6, 1999 30 out of 33 found this review helpful
