Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Chowder isn't like other dogs. For one thing, he likes people toys better than dog toys. He liked to read newspapers rather than fetch them, and he would rather surf the internet and look through his telescope than bury a bone. He just doesn't fit in with the neighborhood dogs, and that makes Chowder lonely. When a petting zoo opens nearby, Chowder is determined to make friends with the zoo animals. And with a strong kick and a flying leap, Chowder finally finds a place where he can be comfortable being his silly, slobbery self, and makes friends by being true to his quirks.

Chowder is a hilarious and heartwarming story that introduces an endearing new character to the picture book market.

4 out of 5 stars Simply awesome.   August 20, 2008
Peter Brown, Chowder (Little, Brown, 2006)

Engaging, funny book about a very odd dog named Chowder and his even odder owners. I can't really say anything about it without giving away the plot-- not something I normally worry about where a thirty-page kids' picture book is concerned, but seriously, this is one you've got to experience for yourself. Wonderful illustrations and a twisted genius of a writer make this a must-have for the kids' bookshelf. Highly recommended. ****

5 out of 5 stars Great book for a 3 year old!   July 19, 2008
I got this book from our local library for my son and he loved it so much that we renewed it three times already. I am going to buy it for my son's book collection. My son is three and a half year old and he could definitely identified with Chowder's activities, such as using the computer, going to market or discovering dinosaur bone (at children museum). The graphics are clean, fresh and uncluttered. Great book for kids.

We originally checked this book out of the library and my daughter enjoyed it so much that we purchased it. We also purchased it for my mom who has an English bulldog. A sweet funny book.

This book is relate-able for a lot of kids who are trying to fit in and make friends. It's a cute and funny story.

5 out of 5 stars a must for bulldog lovers   April 20, 2007

Picked this up at the library because I love bulldogs, and now am buying it because my kids, 2 and 5, laugh at every funny moment, every time we read it. The illustrations are right-on and remind me of all the bulldogs I've ever loved...especially the one of Chowder riding in the shopping cart. I can't wait until my dad, another bulldog lover, has a chance to read it to the grandchildren!
